Our Innovative Teaching Practices

Play-based
Fred Rogers once said that “Play is the real work of childhood.” It’s true! Play is the most impactful way for children to commit content to mastery. It takes 400 repetitions of content to create a new pathway in the brain -but only 10-20 repetitions when it is done through play (Dr. Kathryn Purvis). At Maravilla, our lessons are infused with rhythm, the arts, projects, and imaginative play, bringing learning to life!

Spanish-rich
At Maravilla House, bilingualism is more than a skill-it’s a superpower!
Our Spanish-rich preschool environment introduces children to a second language through songs, stories, play, routines, and joyful conversation. Woven into our Reggio-inspired, Science of Reading-aligned approach, bilingual learning supports communication, flexible thinking, cultural awareness, and confidence.
We don’t just teach Spanish. We grow curious, compassionate, bilingual brains.

Science of Reading
At Maravilla House, we lay the foundation for a lifelong love of reading through a structured literacy approach grounded in the Science of Reading.
Using Mount St. Joseph University’s Project Ready Preschool curriculum, we intentionally build the early skills strong readers need-phonemic awareness, letter-sound knowledge, vocabulary, and language comprehension-through playful, engaging, and developmentally appropriate experiences.
Rather than leaving reading to chance, we thoughtfully guide each child step by step, helping them make meaningful connections between sounds, symbols, and stories.

Reggio-Inspired
At Maravilla House, we follow the Reggio Emilia philosophy, which sees children as capable, curious, and full of potential. We nurture learning through open-ended play, meaningful relationships, and the evolving interests of each child.
Our classroom is filled with natural and everyday materials that inspire creativity, exploration, and expression. Whether indoors or outside, children are encouraged to ask questions, make connections, and learn through play.

Christian
At Maravilla House, children encounter God’s love in the gentle, wonder-filled rhythms of our days.
As we sing worship songs, pray together, and learn a monthly Bible verse, children are reminded that they are beautifully made, deeply loved, and part of something bigger than themselves.
Our hope is that every child feels the heart of Maravilla: a place where wonder is protected, love is practiced, and children grow with joyful spirits, tender hearts, and a deep sense that they are loved by Jesus.
